Services
At Nelson Sewing & Crafts we offer a wide range of sewing services that include alterations, repairs, mending, custom sewing, and crafts. There is a minimum $5 charge for all sewing services. Sewing services costing up to $25 are paid in advance. Those services over $25 require a 50% deposit or full payment in advance if you prefer. The prices listed include any supplies or materials needed for the services provided.
PLEASE NOTE: Out of courtesy to us, our machines, and other customers all garments must be cleaned and/or laundered prior to services being provided. Even if you feel like you don't want the garment to fray or fall apart any worse, it must be clean. You might have to hand wash it if necessary. If garments are not clean you will be asked to clean them prior to services being provided. Also, any new garments need to be laundered or cleaned to remove the sizing and to pre-shrink the fabric prior to alterations. If you choose not to prewash new garments, we will not be responsible for the shrinkage after alterations are made.
Alterations
Hems
Pant Hems:
$10 per pair unlined
$15 per pair lined
(This includes pants, slacks, cuffed slacks)
Jean Hems:
$8 per pair
Skirt/Dress Hems:
$10 per layer
(This does not include formal or bridal wear)
Shirt Hems:
$12 for hand stitched hems
$10 for machine hems
(This includes blouses, shirts, tops and T-shirts)
Sleeve Hems:
$15 long sleeves with plackets
$10 short sleeves with machine stitched hem
Letting Out and Taking In
This category involves the alteration of garments where seams or darts need to be taken in or let out.
There is a flat fee for these services and this category does not include formal or bridal wear.
$10 per seam
Miscellaneous Alterations
When your alteration doesn't fit into any other category we will charge for our time with a $5 minimum.
$0.50 per minute with a $5 minimum
Formal and Bridal Wear
For all bridal and formal wear alterations there is a minimum $25 charge and can reach as high as $200 to $250. Keep in mind that this includes your fitting time. We can offer hemming, bustling, sides taken in, sides let out and other types of alterations. Please allow at least 3 weeks for alterations to be completed. Any "RUSH" jobs will be assessed an additional $25.

Patching
Jean Patching:
$8 per pair
(If the jeans are too far gone we will let you know up front.)
Small Mending Patches:
$5 per garment
(This is for patching one small hole per garment)
Other Patches:
$8-$10 per garment or item
(This is for patching other things such as coats, coveralls, and other things that don't fit in another category.)
Zippers
Zipper Repair:
$5 each
(This is for replacement of zipper sliders rather than the whole zipper)
Zipper Replacement:
$10 per zipper for pants/jeans/slacks/skirts
$15 per zipper for dresses/unlined jackets/purses/totes
(does not include formal or bridal wear)
$20 per zipper for lined jackets/coveralls/cushion covers
$25 per zipper for heavy winter coats
$30 per zipper for leather coats/sleeping bags
All prices include the zipper unless zipper has to be customed ordered, customer will pay for custom ordered zipper which will include shipping and handling.
Seams
For simple seam repairs where the stitching has come loose in the seams of slacks, skirts, pants, coats, jackets, etc.
$5 per seam
Elastic Replacement
This service includes removing old elastic and replacing it with new elastic. In most cases we will do a simple casing for the elastic or replace the elastic in the original manner it was made.
$12 to $15 per garment
Mending
Miscellaneous Mending
Jean Button/Snap Replacement:
$5 per button/snap
Shirt/Pant/Slack Button Replacement:
$5 per button or garment whichever is less
Hook & Eye Replacement:
$5 per garment
Minor Stitching:
$5 per garment/item
Hole Repair:
$5 per garment
(This is for holes that do not require a patch)

Applying Patches
This category is for putting on embroidered or printed patches onto military uniforms, scout uniforms, service tech uniforms and other types of uniforms, jackets and vests, inlcuding leather jackets and vests as well as other types of items and garments.
I am an army brat born and raised,I am proud to say. As a result you men and women in uniform get a great rate from me. I am also a Cub Scout and Boy Scout and Girl Scout mom, so scouts also get a special rate.
Military Uniform Patches:
